I, Who Was Reincarnated as a Witch of Fear [chapter 11]

Darkness… a familiar darkness.

Accompanied by a burning sensation in her limbs, Lamiya woke from the darkness.

Instinctively, she wanted to reach out to remove the device obstructing her vision, only to find her hands bound mid-air to a stretcher.

Her arms were wrapped in bandages, making it impossible for her to move.

Lamiya remembered that after Jennifer reverted to her normal self, she seemed to have fainted due to severe poisoning.

After that, her memory went blank.

Still, if Lamiya guessed correctly, she must have been rescued by W.S.S.A staff after she passed out.

As for where she was now…

Lamiya wasn’t certain.

In the silent darkness, Lamiya’s mind gradually calmed. The slightly thrilling memories from the earlier experiment replayed in her head.

Dangerous… it was truly too dangerous.

Recalling the experiment, Lamiya couldn’t help but take a sharp breath, feeling a pang of fear.

Fortunately, Lamiya had acted quickly, remembering that Jennifer liked turtles.

She had used mud to craft a turtle that wouldn’t trigger Jennifer’s appetite.

Luckily, the plan worked perfectly, appeasing the lonely Jennifer and bringing her out of her frenzy.

The only regret was that, even though the outcome was good, Lamiya had suffered significant injuries.

Her ability was really tough to use—it had terrifying potential, but the limitations were equally pathetic.

Without stored forms, her power was purely luck-based.

Good luck meant an enemy might fear something powerful, like vampires, ghosts, or trolls.

Bad luck meant they might fear something like cockroaches or mice, leaving Lamiya completely speechless.

For her, it was crucial to store several powerful and versatile forms.

Unfortunately, even without thinking, Lamiya knew W.S.S.A would never let her store those forms.

Any new form Lamiya obtained in experiments would be destroyed afterward. Their method? Killing Lamiya while she remained in the new form.

Sure, it was inhumane, but for them, it was a guarantee of containment safety.

Thinking about this, Lamiya wore a gloomy expression, feeling her future darken.

This was only her second experiment…

The target was just a contained subject whose details she knew, with a low “dark yellow” danger level.

Even so, the cost had been massive for Lamiya.

She couldn’t even imagine future experiments involving unfamiliar or extremely dangerous subjects.

Her survival felt like it was hanging by a thread.

And this wasn’t a temporary ordeal—W.S.S.A would never allow Lamiya or any other contained subject to return to human society.

To put it plainly, Lamiya was like a lab rat sentenced to life imprisonment. Not the kind who could slack off, but one forced to undergo high-intensity 996 experiments in captivity.

Her future wasn’t just dim—it was pure hell.

If nothing changed, Lamiya would grow old and die in this place, her life spent in experiments and darkness.

Or worse, die in one of the experiments themselves…

Either way, Lamiya had to escape. Staying meant certain death.

But how?

The W.S.S.A base was impenetrable, full of guards, researchers, and task forces. Let’s not forget she was now a blindfolded ordinary girl.

She couldn’t even remove the helmet on her head, let alone think about escape.

There must be a way…

As Lamiya racked her brain, a familiar voice broke the silence.

“Are you awake?”

The voice sounded familiar.

It seemed to belong to the caretaker Emma, but there was something slightly different about it.

Hearing this, Lamiya wanted to speak, but a memory from the experiment resurfaced.

She remembered a woman had warned her during her escape attempt.

Although the warning hadn’t helped much, the woman’s voice was remarkably similar to Emma’s.

Could that woman be Emma?

If so, why was Emma in the remote experiment control room?

Lamiya was puzzled. Honestly, she felt her imagination might be running wild.

After all, caretakers were low-ranked compared to task force members and researchers.

They weren’t usually present in the control room, nor did they have access to the communication systems used to speak with her.

Unless… Emma wasn’t just a simple caretaker.

Listening to Emma’s quiet breathing in the silence, Lamiya fell into deep thought.

Still, she couldn’t help but feel frustrated.

Of all characters to transmigrate into, why did she have to become one with impaired vision?

If only she could see what Emma looked like, she might recall details about her storyline.

If that happened, Lamiya could try to “strategize” Emma, getting her to help with escaping—willingly or otherwise.

Lamiya even had a plan, though it was slightly embarrassing.

If Emma turned out to be a “strict” type, she’d sacrifice her pride to flirt.

If Emma was a straightforward, no-nonsense type, she’d act pitiful to trigger Emma’s maternal instincts.

But first, she needed information on Emma’s preferences to ensure her strategy would work.

Another thing nagged at Lamiya.

Why had Emma known that Changnan Jiangtai was responsible for her project, and why had she told her?

Was that something a caretaker should even know?

Even if she knew, was she allowed to say it?

Conversations and footage were all monitored by W.S.S.A…

The more Lamiya thought, the stranger it seemed. She just hoped she wasn’t overthinking.

Meanwhile, in room UN-04-13.

Renata watched Lamiya lying motionless on the bed and couldn’t help but wonder, “Why hasn’t she woken up yet?”

Little did Renata know, the fragile girl before her was deep in thought, speculating about her identity and plotting how to win her over.

Even more unexpected was how Renata’s irritation with Changnan Jiangtai had led her to leak information about him—something that would become a key clue for Lamiya.

After several experiments and records, Renata had become convinced that Lamiya was just an innocent young girl, never suspecting how calculating her mind truly was.

Because of her earlier mistake, which left Lamiya severely injured, Renata now felt a pang of guilt.

This was why Lamiya hesitated to recognize Emma’s voice at first.

The once indifferent Renata now spoke with unexpected gentleness.

“I’m awake,” Lamiya suddenly responded. “But… why can’t I move?”

Feigning ignorance, Lamiya stiffly asked.

Thankfully, Renata didn’t catch on and explained honestly, “You’re injured and need to rest. But those in charge of the experiment took you to see UK-04-06, and she healed you.”

Hearing this, Lamiya froze. She knew UK-04-06, the semi-automated plague doctor.

In her mind, UK-04-06 was an ancient containment subject from medieval Europe, female in appearance but neither human nor living.

“Don’t worry, you’re safe for now. You’ll even have food soon.”

Renata, seeing no reaction from Lamiya, continued.

Her voice softened as she added, “But there’s another experiment tomorrow morning. Prepare yourself…”

Lamiya’s heart sank. She let out a faint “Mm” with a bitter expression.

Seeing her disheartened face, Renata felt even guiltier. After all, she wouldn’t be overseeing the next experiment…

Changnan Jiangtai had completed his mission and returned.

“What about Jennifer? When can I see her again?” Lamiya suddenly asked.

She actually liked Jennifer, even though Jennifer had almost killed her.

Still, Lamiya didn’t mind too much. Despite lingering fear, Jennifer was now calm —a cute girl with a long tail.

Besides, if Lamiya wanted to romance a containment girl in-game, she’d need to “die” a few times first—it was the mark of true love.

Renata paused for a few seconds before replying, touched by their pure bond.

“You’ll see her again…”

“Mm…”
