The young man clearly wasn't willing, but Yumei was determined. Even if she had to go against her own pride, she wasn't going to back down. She gave him a pitiful look and said, "Fellow daoist, do you truly find me so dull and unworthy of learning from you?"
"Hmm."
Yumei's pretense of vulnerability disappeared. What was this? Just be straightforward, why deceive people? Hmph, what's so impressive about him? He might have a slightly higher cultivation level, but he wasn't the strongest in the Primordial Era. He didn't have that much to be arrogant about. He had just said that she was the reason he broke through, and now he was shirking responsibility, showing no gratitude.
The more he acted like this, the more Yumei wanted to thwart his intentions. If she had lost her karmic connection with him, he wouldn't be able to harm her.
"Well then, may I inquire where fellow daoist is heading? I no longer seek your guidance; I merely hope to follow in your footsteps. You are the most powerful cultivator I've encountered. Your aura is abundant, and I believe it would be an unparalleled opportunity to accompany you." Speaking in the Primordial Era was truly a challenge. Right now, Yumei only wished she could curse at him and his entire family.
The young man couldn't withstand Yumei's pestering and reluctantly agreed. After all, he owed Yumei this karmic connection; he couldn't just abandon her and leave.
With a cheerful demeanor, Yumei followed behind the young man. She didn't know where they were headed, but she wasn't concerned about danger. People in the Primordial Era took karma quite seriously; following his lead would be sufficient.
Along the way, Yumei asked about the young man's identity. He was very proud and bluntly stated that Yumei didn't need to know. Annoyed by his arrogance, she stopped asking altogether. Who cared about knowing everything anyway?
Even though he was arrogant and unwilling to interact with Yumei, he occasionally offered a few words of advice while she cultivated. It turned out to be quite helpful for her progress.
Yumei continued to prepare food frequently, always inviting him to join her. As time passed, he grew to enjoy the taste, understanding why she chose to eat these varied foods even when he himself could cultivate without sustenance.
One day after a meal, the young man suddenly said to Yumei, "You and I have been companions for hundreds of years, and our karmic connection has come to an end. Leave!"
Yumei was baffled by his sudden urge to make her leave. She hadn't caused him any trouble during these centuries. In fact, she'd been tirelessly preparing delicious meals for him every day. Even though she had made a breakthrough to become a Profound Immortal with his guidance, it hadn't taken up much of his time.
"Since you're tired of traveling with me, I naturally won't trouble you any longer. I'll take my leave and wish you well, fellow daoist." Yumei had no choice but to bid farewell. What started as just a few words seemed to have led to her being the cause of his breakthrough. After hundreds of years by his side and breaking through her own cultivation level, she felt she had fulfilled her role in his journey.
He then handed her the same jade plaque once again, his voice still as cold as ever, void of any emotion. "This jade plaque is still for you."
"Thank you, fellow daoist." Yumei accepted the jade plaque with a heavy heart. He should be the first person she had met in the Primordial Era, the first person to speak to her after so many years. And now, they were parting ways.
Over the centuries, she had never seen him angry or smiling. He was like a statue in a temple, impervious to anything that happened around him. The only facial expression she had ever seen him make was a slight frown when they first met.
Perhaps Yumei simply wasn't the kind of person who could evoke emotions from him.
With a sense of desolation, Yumei turned and left. As she looked back, she noticed a hint of hesitation in the young man's eyes, an emotion he shouldn't have had.
Oh well, she could consider it her repayment for providing him meals for hundreds of years.
"If you ever have a request in the future, you can find me on Kunlun Mountain. I'll help you once." The young man spoke up before she departed.
