Accompanied by the glaring red lights, the orderly hallway echoed with the sound of footsteps.
A group of armed personnel quickly passed through the chaotic evacuating crowd, surrounding the mirrored room at the end of the corridor.
Then came the deadly silence. Dozens of black gun muzzles were pointed straight at the room where thick smoke was seeping through the cracks. The air froze instantly.
Just then, the sound of bare feet on the smooth floor reached everyone's ears, instantly grabbing the attention of all members of the Octopus Special Task Force.
But what nobody anticipated was that, instead of Containment Entity Number Thirteen, the second sound following the footsteps wasn't the thirteenth containment entity...
It was a series of sharp and frantic screams. The sound was piercing, creating warped airwaves and an inexplicable sense of sorrow and grief. Those who heard it felt as though they were under a spell, as if all joy and happiness had vanished from the world. The pain and sorrow enveloped their minds, and the fingers on the triggers slackened.
Fortunately, the scream stopped abruptly.
From the rolling thick smoke emerged a semi-transparent figure. She emitted a faint glow, and her features resembled those of Containment Entity Number Thirteen. Her once sullen face now displayed agony and sadness.
Her expression was on the verge of tears.
Her long, disheveled white hair surrounded her cheeks on both sides, radiating a faint light just like her body.
Her thin white garments floated weightlessly, but her pale skin bore an eerie pattern of scars resembling centipedes, which sent shivers down the spines of everyone present, evoking thoughts of several possibilities...
Was this a vengeful spirit from Japan?
Or perhaps a European enchantress.
In any case, she was a peculiar undead creature.
An undead creature, but not entirely.
The members of the Special Task Force raised their firearms, pulling the triggers without hesitation.
Bullets riddled the semi-transparent girl, causing her to emit a mist-like white light, but many more bullets passed right through her body, hitting the door behind her, making loud noises.
It appeared that bullets weren't entirely ineffective against her, but their effect was limited.
The team members intended to pursue their advantage and intensified their firepower.
Bullets pierced the girl's skin, sending waves of pain coursing through her brain. Having been already deprived of her sanity due to her previous transformation, the additional pain made her furious.
Her initially pitiful face twisted suddenly, her eyebrows furrowed, and her mouth opened wide as she angrily roared, unleashing waves of sound that distorted the air, causing everyone to feel angry and distraught.
However, the screaming ceased abruptly.
In the midst of the rolling smoke, a dusty, well-built black-haired man approached from a distance.
He wore a simple white windbreaker and held a gray assault rifle casually, walking towards the girl at a leisurely pace.
The girl seemed to recognize him when she saw his face, showing a slight reaction.
But in the next second, gunshots rang out.

After three gunshots, white mist began to pour from the girl's brain, heart, and spine.
Subsequently, her eyes darkened, and she lost consciousness.
She fell lightly to the ground, lifeless.
Seeing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
The alarm was lifted, and the red lights dimmed.
Changnan Jiangtai and Renata approached quickly.
"Captain Chu? I thought you were in Yunnan, China, on a containment mission. Why did you return so early?" Changnan Jiangtai still had his sarcastic demeanour, and his annoying smile made Captain Chu lower his gaze slightly.

Captain Chu was reserved in both manner and speech. He cast a glance at Jiangtai and then turned to Renata.
Renata did not respond to Captain Chu's gaze but looked at the unconscious Containment Entity Number Thirteen with a hint of regret. She asked, "Is she... dead?"
However, her question prompted Jiangtai's mockery. "That's why I said young people like you aren't suitable for containment work."
"Isn't this situation described in the manual?" Renata retorted. "The Thirteenth Containment Entity can be attacked with live ammunition or other lethal weapons after it transforms upon making eye contact with a fear-inducing creature."
Having said that, Jiangtai gave Captain Chu a meaningful look, seemingly testing him.
But Captain Chu didn't pay any attention to him, as if he were invisible.
Jiangtai shrugged helplessly, sighed lightly, and continued, "Because even if the Thirteenth sustains severe injuries or dies after transforming into a new form, its core entity won't be harmed."
"The only consequence of death is that the Thirteenth will lose the ability to transform into that form again until it makes eye contact with a creature that fears it."
"What a miraculous ability, isn't it? It's almost like half-immortality..."
Jiangtai, with his doctorate, spoke, and everyone's gaze returned to the girl lying on the ground.
Her body had returned to its normal complexion from the faint white glow, and the bullet holes were mysteriously gone, replaced by gentle breathing.
"Summon the Rat Special Task Force; she needs rest," Renata said in relief, and then she looked at Jiangtai, saying coldly, "This containment breach was caused by your experiment. Remember to explain it clearly to your superior."
"Of course, I know," Jiangtai replied indifferently.
"And when dealing with containment entities, practice alone isn't enough; you need to keep up with theory."
With that, Jiangtai handed Renata the white handbook he was holding.
Renara took it with a somewhat displeased expression. After all, her theoretical knowledge wasn't up to par, and this was her first day involved in the Thirteenth Containment Entity experiment.
Jiangtai patted his white coat and then turned and left, followed by the members of the Octopus Special Task Force, responsible for handling containment breaches.
However, before they could leave, another group of personnel, equipped only with light weapons, arrived.
They were of short stature but had considerable strength. They placed the girl on a stretcher and, like nimble little mice, quickly left the area.
Seeing the girl and the Rat Special Task Force leave, Renata turned back to look at Captain Chu, who had resolved a containment breach shortly after returning to the base. She inquired, "Did you know about the Thirteenth's abilities before you opened fire?"
But Captain Chu did not respond, maintaining his chilling silence.
Renata, known for her short temper, was about to say something else when two streams of blood began to flow from Mr. Chu's ears...
