I, Who was Reincarnated As a Witch of Fear [chapter 4]

Someone is here.

Lamiya became cautious, but she didn't make any movements. She continued to pretend to be asleep.

The footsteps grew closer, stopping at Lamiya's bedside.

What is this person doing?

Lamiya's eyebrows furrowed beneath her helmet in the dark. Even though Lamiya knew the storyline of this world quite well, being unable to see anything was still unsettling.

But just as Lamiya wondered who this newcomer might be, the aroma of a meal wafted in, as if freshly cooked meat was being served.

And there was the scent of potatoes, spicy peppers, and rice?

Lamiya's nose twitched.

The warm, fragrant aroma made Lamiya's mouth water, and she couldn't help but drool a little.

So hungry...

However, just at that moment, a clear female voice reached Lamiya's ears.

"Get up; I know you're awake."

The woman said, and her voice sounded familiar to Lamiya, like she'd heard it somewhere before.

Lamiya knew that continuing to feign sleep wouldn't be productive, so she sat up, cleared her throat, and asked seriously.

"Who are you? What are you here for?"

"I'm your new nurse, here to take care of you and bring you food."

"The previous nurse had something come up and won't be returning."

The female nurse explained in a calm tone. She had a pleasant, albeit cold, and magnetic voice, and it felt familiar to Lamiya.

Afterward, there were rustling sounds. The nurse sat at the bedside, preparing something.

A nurse?

Right, Lamiya nearly forgot that she had a nurse. A nurse could handle many tasks, and for someone like Lamiya, who was practically blind, the nurse was crucial for almost everything.

Eating, bathing, exercising, even going to the restroom, all required assistance.

In a way, it was like having a personal maid, although one who didn't particularly like you.

If Lamiya weren't currently a "guinea pig" in containment, she would be quite happy. After all, who doesn't like a maid, even if she's cold and unenthusiastic?

In the darkness, the sound of food being scooped up suddenly filled the room, and then the nurse, in a mechanical and indifferent tone, said, "Open your mouth, ah."

Oh, come on! Is this a feeding play?

No way!

Lamiya would rather starve to death than be fed by the containment creatures!

She wouldn't eat anything from the WSSA!

The scene unfolds as follows:

"Today's meal is braised potatoes, stir-fried green peppers and pork, served with rice. It should suit the taste of East Asians," the nurse explained to Lamiya, who remained unmoved. The familiar names of the dishes and the aromatic smell provoked Lamiya's stomach to grumble audibly, making her feel a bit embarrassed. Nevertheless, Lamiya's determined will wouldn't easily succumb to this tactic. She refused to become an obedient, helpless creature, meekly awaiting to be fed.

"A slap in the face then a sweet date right after it? This approach doesn't work on me!" she thought, reminding herself that she wasn't some delicate, helpless maiden who needed assistance to eat. She exclaimed, "I can eat by myself."

[tn: referring back to a few chapters ago where she got zapped, and now how she's being treated well-ish]

She reached out her fair, trembling hand, which inadvertently collided with an iron tray that seemed to be the bed table, causing her pain and tears to well up.

Lamiya didn't need to see it to know that her hand was probably swollen and reddened. Frustrated, she confronted the nurse, who had fallen into a momentary silence, and said defiantly, "I can do it myself, no need for your help!"

Once again, she extended her slightly reddened hand carefully around the tray that the nurse had just set up. Her intention was to grasp the spoon. However, the evil nurse appeared to have moved the spoon, leaving Lamia grasping empty air.

"Ah," the nurse's voice once again resounded, as if she had an intense obsession with feeding Lamia. No matter what Lamiya said about feeding herself, she would just respond with the same "Ah" to indicate she should open her mouth.

If it weren't for the fact that Lamiya knew the nurse couldn't be a robot, she would have thought the nurse was an "artificial idiot." Lamiya had played many storylines in the game with containment creatures as the main characters, but their nurses were typically normal and most were afraid of the containment creatures. However, the nurse in front of Lamiya was not only unafraid but also cold and seemed to take pleasure in the act of feeding, treating Lamiya as if she were a cute animal that she was feeding.

Would Lamiya yield to this? No way!

Lamiya would rather starve to death than be treated this way!

"Delicious..." Lamiya said as she enjoyed the food. "The food here is surprisingly good."

With her head slightly raised, Lamiya devoured a mixture of green peppers, meat, potatoes, and rice from the spoon. She chewed it slowly, savoring each bite before swallowing. She continued to eat, commenting, "Professional organizations must know how to raise containment subjects to become waste and prevent them from breaking containment."

However, a single meal wouldn't win Lamiya over! She needed to be well-fed and well-hydrated to have the strength to escape.

After all, in her previous life, she had appeared malnourished and weak. If the WSSA decided to release her, she would probably have died from anemia on the way out.

Yes, all of this was for her freedom! It was all worth it for the sake of her freedom!

In her thoughts, Lamiya's food tasted even sweeter, and her determination remained unshaken.

Of course, Lamiya wasn't idle. After eating a few bites, she began to probe the nurse.

"Can I ask you a few questions?"

After a moment of silence, the nurse replied concisely, "Ask."

"What's your name?"

"Emma."

"Where are you from?"

But Emma didn't answer directly; instead, she once again extended the spoon filled with food, demanding, "Ah."

Unable to resist, Lamia extended her head again and opened her mouth to eat.

Their Q&A session continued.

"Where are you from?"

"America."

The nurse responded promptly, her speech quick and concise. This puzzled Lamiya because, despite having played through ten loops of the game, she couldn't recall any recollection of a character named Emma. Typically, characters with pleasant voices and strong personalities in the game were attractive individuals. Lamia would definitely remember someone like that, especially if she had been involved with or flirted with them. She suddenly felt a bit exposed.

"Or maybe I just overlooked something," Lamiya thought. Perhaps this character named Emma had been dead or absent from the game's plot before it unfolded.

Frustrated, she muttered to herself, "I wish they'd remove this helmet. When will I be able to see again?"

"Ah," Lamiya exclaimed again, filled with annoyance. She continued eating the food provided by the nurse and then decided to change the topic by asking more questions.

"Can I take off the helmet during my alone time? It's so boring not being able to see anything."

"Impossible."

"Are you single?"

"Yes."

"Who was responsible for my last experiment?"

Lamiya suddenly threw out this question when she had no other options left.

Emma, the nurse, fell silent, and the spoon filled with food didn't make its usual appearance. Lamiya was about to shift the topic when, unexpectedly, Emma spoke up.

"It was Chonan Jiangtai."

As Lamiya's pupils contracted, she recognized the name. Chonan Jiangtai was one of the twelve main characters, hailing from Japan, and an extreme human supremacist. Lamiya had met her death in several storylines that Chonan had overseen.

Now that she knew the identity of the scoundrel who had electrocuted her, Lamiya's intent was satisfied. She regained her composure and said, "Do you have any other questions? If not, I'll leave."

"I do."

"Is there more food?"
