I, Who was Reincarnated As a Witch of Fear [chapter 5]

In an empty and rudimentary room with only a single bed and a separated toilet compartment, Renata observed Lamiya, who lay on the bed after eating and drinking, breathing gradually calming. Renata's gaze gradually became distracted, as if pondering something.

After a while, she snapped out of her thoughts, got up, and put away the tray, spoon, and table on the bed. Then, she nodded towards the camera directly across from the bed.

The door opened promptly, and Renata walked out slowly, entering a bright corridor.

The corridor was unusually spacious, with researchers in white lab coats or fully armed special forces members passing by from time to time. On both sides of the corridor were identical gray metal doors, neatly arranged; those created a sense of oppression and suffocation.

However, each door was labeled with different numbers. For example, the door of the room Renata just left was marked with a light red number — UN-04-13.

The door behind Renata closed slowly, and two researchers came from the other side of the corridor, taking the utensils from Renata's hands and leaving.

As for Renata, she walked towards a farther section of the corridor.

After a short while, Renata arrived in front of a door labeled RU-04-79, where Changnan Jiangtai was standing, seemingly waiting for something.

"How is she?" Changnan Jiangtai asked, but Renata's gaze was fixated on the burnt traces on his pale lab coat.

"Who are you talking about?" Renata replied indifferently.

"I know you've seen her. What do you think of her?" Changnan Jiangtai asked straightforwardly.

Renata didn't want to reveal much information to Changnan Jiangtai, so she casually said, "She has a big appetite, other than that, just an ordinary little girl."

Changnan Jiangtai, however, wasn't concerned about that and continued, "I'm not asking about that. I'm talking about her ability... or functionality."

"Don't you think... the ability of Containment Item 13 is what we've been dreaming of for years?" Changnan Jiangtai said with excitement, his face turning red and appearing somewhat manic.

"Go on," Renata said, suddenly showing some interest, but still not willing to say much to Changnan Jiangtai.

However, her cold attitude didn't dampen Changnan Jiangtai's enthusiasm.

"Let me put it another way, Renata. What are you afraid of?" Changnan Jiangtai suddenly changed the subject and started questioning Renata.

The unexpected question made Renata somewhat resistant. She frowned, crossed her arms, but eventually spoke.

"I don't believe in ghosts or gods, so I'm more afraid of bioweapons. Especially those high-diffusion viruses that can spread in the air and water."

As an expert in the field of biology, Renata knew how dangerous bioweapons could be like the back of her hand.

"That's right. You're afraid of bioweapons because they can easily kill us," Changnan Jiangtai said mysteriously, his face glowing with excitement. He then shared his thoughts.

"You're afraid of bioweapons, just like trees fear wildfires, and wildfires fear water..."

But before Changnan Jiangtai could finish his words, a loud explosion suddenly came from a room behind him.

The tremendous explosion even caused the corridor floor to shake a few times.

"Well, maybe not that afraid..." Changnan Jiangtai looked a bit embarrassed at the unexpected situation and coughed a few times before gesturing to the firefighting special forces nearby.

The door opened, and the sounds of explosions, gunfire, and screams filled the corridor as members of the special forces with specialized rifles rushed into the room. The door closed again, and the corridor fell silent.

"Again with RU-04-79? How many times this year? How many employees have died? Hasn't management given you trouble?" Renata continued, "You should have put her in high-risk containment area a long time ago."

"Cough, I will consider your suggestion, but for now, let's continue our discussion," Changnan Jiangtai seemed to show a rare headache expression. He continued, "The things we fear are our weaknesses."

Renata nodded in agreement with this statement.

If bioweapons couldn't harm her, Renata wondered why she should be afraid of them.

"In other words, if we can use UN-04-13 properly, we will have control over everything that containment items fear. That is, weaknesses," Changnan Jiangtai's eyes twinkled with excitement.

"But she's a person, not a weapon. How can you ensure that she will listen to you? Don't forget, you almost electrocuted her not long ago," Renata thought he was being too idealistic and poured cold water on the idea.

"So, I didn't stop you from personally contacting UN-04-13."

"In this lonely, boring, and dangerous environment, an ordinary little girl will quickly develop affection for a friendly person."

"This is the most convenient and least costly way..."

Changnan Jiangtai didn't continue, but Renata had already understood.

So, it's to cultivate a good relationship with her and then play the emotional card?

However, Renata didn't object to this. Even after hearing Changnan Jiangtai's words, she had a similar intention.

"I will consider it, but you have to give me the role of the main person in charge of the next experiment."

"I will personally conduct the experiment with her."

"No problem..."

The next day.

In a dim and damp room.

The green light on Lamiya's helmet flashed, removing the eye restrictions.

Although the helmet didn't come off, Lamiya could finally see things.

She looked ahead, and all she saw was a muddy and overgrown swamp.

Indeed, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Lamiya nervously bit her lip.

After eating well yesterday, today marked Lamiya's second experiment.

This time, Lamiya would not face expendable D-class personnel in white patient suits, like in the previous experiment. Instead, she would encounter a humanoid containment item similar to herself.

This containment item was named US-04-81, a female containment item discovered in a large swamp area in the United States.

Its level was deep yellow, indicating moderate abilities but relatively dangerous.

In Lamiya's memory, the levels of all containment items were determined by two indicators.

One was the strength of abilities, with colors ranging from white, blue, yellow, orange, red, to black.

The other was the danger level, which would change the brightness and darkness of the color. Lighter colours indicated safer levels, while darker colours indicated more danger.

In this experiment, Lamiya needed to have close contact and communication with this deep yellow-level containment item.

Ideally, this would only involve contact and communication.

However, if containment item 81 showed hostility and launched an attack, Lamiya would have to confront it, turning into a battle against her most feared creature.

The personnel from the WSSA would record and analyze the contact, communication, and battle between the two containment items, aiming to better understand them.

Lamiya did not resist this experiment because she had conquered this containment item 81 before, making the experiment very easy for her. She just needed to follow her memory to communicate with containment item 81.

Moreover, the female caregiver assured Lamiya that if she cooperated positively in this experiment, her living conditions would improve.

Although Lamiya would eventually escape, it would take time, and having better living conditions during this period wouldn't be a bad thing.

In short, after adjusting to the light in the dim room by tossing aside her helmet, Lamiya walked barefoot towards the nearby swamp.

But before Lamiya could take a few steps, a faint figure emerged from the depths of the swamp.

A pair of eyes emitting a frightening red glow stared straight at Lamiya, making her nervously swallow saliva.

After all...

This wasn't a game...
